Shay Mitchell is a Canadian model and actress. Her best-known role is as Emily Fields on the Freeform show Pretty Little Liars. In Toronto she studied acting classes after having the success of modeling and dancing. Mitchell landed some commercials along with guest roles in TV series. She got her break, however, when she performed Emily Fields' role in Pretty Little Liars. Critics and fans both praised her for her talent. The popular actress later established herself in the film industry with films like DreamlandMother's Dayand The Possession of Hannah Grace. Her role in the psychological thriller series "You" brought her more attention. She has written an adult-oriented novel titled Bliss which she co-wrote together with Michaela Blaney. Shay Mitchell's parents, Mark Mitchell (born April 10, 1988) and Precious Garcia, raised her within Ontario Canada. She's of Filipina descent, and her father is of Scottish/Irish heritage. Mitchell is also a relative of Lea Salonga, a famed musical theater actress and singer. Mitchell attended Rockridge Secondary School before moving onto West Vancouver Secondary. When she was in her teen years Mitchell worked for several modeling companies around the world. She traveled to Barcelona, Bangkok, and Hong Kong, ultimately returning home to Toronto and pursuing a degree in acting.
